Regional tenant moves
Older South African tenants can still have workloads reporting Europe. We verify what Microsoft reports, measure the path, check move eligibility and then choose between a supported regional move and a controlled migration into a South African tenant.

The tenant sign-up country and the actual service geography are not always the same. We verify each workload rather than assuming.
Remote egress, proxy inspection, VPN hairpins and distant service front doors can make Microsoft 365 slow on an otherwise fast line.
Large mailboxes, damaged items, poor folder structures and add-ins can cause repeated sync failures unless they are cleaned up first.

Local vs Europe transfer test
We measure latency and download speed to a Microsoft Azure sample in South Africa North (Johannesburg) and North Europe (Dublin), then estimate how long real OneDrive or SharePoint volumes take at each rate. If a tenant still lives in Europe, this is the gap every mailbox and sync round trip pays.
Data use: this test transfers roughly 50 MB in total, 25 MB from each region. Avoid running it on a limited mobile-data connection.

Both samples originate in Microsoft Azure and are relayed through Fire-IT for browser compatibility, so the numbers reflect our network path to each Microsoft region. It is an illustration of the regional gap, not a direct OneDrive benchmark or proof of tenant location. OneDrive sync overhead, many small files, other users and network load can make a real migration slower. Microsoft's full test checks the SharePoint and OneDrive service front door actually in use.

Sign in as an authorised Microsoft 365 administrator, then open Settings > Org settings > Organization profile > Data location. Microsoft lists the actual geography for each supported service there.
Older South African tenant? Local Office 365 services launched in July 2019. Some older tenants or workloads can still report Europe or EMEA where a legacy move was not completed. Check the card rather than assuming the sign-up country is the data location.
What does the Data location card show?
Fire-IT never asks you to enter Microsoft administrator credentials into this website. The location is checked inside Microsoft's own secured admin portal.
Email transport clue
Ask the client to send you an email, open its raw message headers and paste them below. We inspect the Microsoft Received server names for South African or European transport indicators.
Private by design: the headers are analysed only in this browser. They are not uploaded or stored by Fire-IT.

These checks help reveal the path and likely geography. Fire-IT confirms the authoritative Microsoft data location and move eligibility before recommending any change.
